Bulldog

By Scott Keith on 30 December 2016

Why was the British Bulldog treated as a jobber in WCW? He was an upper midcard WWF guy and Bischoff couldn’t seem to sign enough of those types and market them as main event stars. Then Bulldog gets released by WCW and goes back to WWF and gets pushed right into the main even picture with Austin and Rock. I can’t think of any prominent ex-WWF star who got treated this way in WCW, and he clearly still had some value. Did Bischoff have something personal against the guy?

It was more that Eric didn’t really want him because Bulldog’s contract release was so restrictive that there was very little he could do gimmick-wise. He wasn’t allowed to have any connection with Bret Hart or be portrayed as part of the Hart Foundation. So really you’re left with a guy who’s kind of broken down with drug problems and is more trouble than he’s worth from a legal standpoint.
