Paul Heyman Bad For Business
By Scott Keith on 12 December 2016
I was recently revisiting the Paul Heyman doc on the Network and it got me thinking about a question I’ve had for some time. It has long been my understanding that Heyman, concerning his strengths and weaknesses, was viewed as a great wrestling mind but a "bad business man." This is something Bubba Ray Dudley even mentioned on the Rise & Fall of ECW doc when discussing why ECW eventually went under.
Having said that, do you agree with that assessment? I’m not necessarily saying I do or don’t agree, but what exactly made him a "bad business man" and is this what ultimately did ECW in? I was always curious how others saw this characterization of Heyman.
It’s apparently Paul Heyman Day on the blog. I’d also agree with the idea that he wasn’t a good businessman, mostly because he tried to go national with a product that was very regional and didn’t need to be national in order to survive. ECW worked as the big fish in the small pond, but just didn’t have the backing, resources or talent pool to make it past that level. Paul really got in way over his head with the PPV deal and TNN show and there wasn’t going to be any way to save it.
