Question on Savage/Liz

By Scott Keith on 6 April 2014

Hey Scott,
Question on the Savage/Liz reunion at WM 7 (#2 all time WM moment in my book, behind Hogan-Andre, notwithstanding WWE propoganda to the contrary. It's also on the WWE.com list of most emotional WM moments, behind the Undertaker/HHH/HBK walking out together after the end of an era match. Right.)
Was there always the plan for this from the beginning to lead to the "wedding" and Jake angle, or was Savage actually retiring, with the reunion just a way to get Savage a nice sendoff going into retirement? If he was really planning on retiring at that point, what changed, when did it change and why?
Also, who "booked" the post-match angle, or who came up with the idea for this post-match reunion? Just curious, because as we know it was #13 on the list of great WM moments… Was it Savage himself, or Vince, or someone else?
The wedding thing was Savage and Liz making a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, so you could say they booked it, I guess. Vince really did want to phase Macho out, which is ridiculous now when you think about it, but Warrior flaking out kind of forced his hand and made him bring back to the top again. But yeah, there was every intention on Vince's part that Savage was done. And Savage himself was insisting at the time that he was done with the business, too, probably because he was trying to patch things up with Elizabeth.
