Rants

Social Media!

By Scott Keith on 4 April 2013

If the three-hour Raws are such a drag and the buildup to WM has been so lousy (and I agree on both points), why has business been doing relatively well recently?

Because SCIENCE!
House shows are the best gauge of short-term business gains, and literally almost the entire tour has been sold out since Rock and Brock came back after Royal Rumble. Not to mention buyrates are up and ratings are way up. Yeah, a lot of it is artificially inflated by Rock being there and they're not making that much money as a result, but the numbers are still the same. They can point at the PPV revenues going up year-to-year and say SOCIAL MEDIA! Like seriously, that's what they credit. The house show numbers are an even better indicator because it's a pretty major endeavor for a family with kids to get tickets and go out for the evening to a WWE show instead of, say, a movie. So obviously people are actively spending money on this product, even if we hate it. Which is understandable, I've never pretended to speak for the majority or casual fans or whatever. We're a very vocal subset of a much larger group of fans, and that larger group, a UNIVERSE of fans if you will, think that Brock and Rock and HHH and Undertaker all being back is a big deal and they're spending money.
