The SmarK Rant for Mid-South Wrestling – 12.20.84
OK time to wrap up 1984 so I can move onto 1986 and the dawn of the UWF era.
Taped from Shreveport, LA
Your hosts are Jim Ross & Boyd Pierce. That’s a combo you don’t see all the time.
Meanwhile, we get another look at the famous vignette that introduced Kamala, which ties in with Kamala’s return on the show a couple of weeks back. And then we get footage from two weeks ago with Kamala returning to attack Butch Reed. And then last week, Kamala destroyed Magnum TA to send him out of the territory and we see that as well. And then just for kicks, we watch the end of the Rock N Roll Express v. Hercules & Dr. Death match, as the Express beats them in a non-title match to earn a rematch for the belts.
Ted Dibiase & Sheik Hercules v. The Rock N Roll Express
This is another non-title match because it’s classified as a fan-voted “dream match” rather than the mandated title match. Dibiase beats on Robert and slugs away in the corner, but Robert flips over him and gets some dropkicks to take over. The heels bail to regroup. Back in the ring, the Express hit more dropkicks and chase them out again. Back in the ring, Ricky takes some forearms from Herc and fights back from that, but Hercules drops him on the top rope and it’s over to Dibiase as poor Ricky gets beat up again. They double-team Morton in the corner and Dibiase drops an elbow on him for two and goes to a chinlock. Ricky fights out of that and dodges a flying Hercules, and it’s hot tag Robert. Double dropkick puts Herc on the floor, but Dibiase loads up the ISOTONER OF DEATH. So the Express grabs the hand and smashes it into the turnbuckle repeatedly as the ref is bumped. But then Akbar tosses Hercules’s head-dress into the ring and he uses it to choke Ricky out, pretending to be a sleeper, and that finishes at 6:40.
Kamala v. Iceman King Parsons
Kamala beats Parsons down and goes to a boob claw before choking him out on the mat. Parsons fights back with chops, but Kamala goes back to purpling the nurple. Iceman slugs back and comes back with a dropkick, but he gets distracted by Akbar and Kamala lays him out and splashes him at 3:05. And the babyfaces storm the ring and prevent any further damage.
Terry Taylor & Tim Horner v. Buddy Landel & Steve Williams
Buddy gets double-teamed in the babyface corner and Tim works the arm and backdrops him out of the corner, and it’s over to Doc. Tim dodges him and dropkicks him, but Terry gets caught in the heel corner and Doc works him over. Doc misses an elbow and it’s hot tag Horner, but he misses a blind charge and Doc grabs him and Stampedes him for the pin at 3:42. Glad to see Buddy has found a new friend.
Brad Armstrong v. Dave Veasey
Brad works the arm and backdrops him, and that sets up the sleeper to finish at 1:50.
Chavo & Hector Guerrero v. Butch Reed & Private Terry Daniels
Chavo takes Butch down with a hammerlock, but Butch monkeyflips him and slugs away in the corner. Over to Daniels, but Chavo takes him down with a headscissors and Hector comes in with a legdrop. Daniels makes a comeback and Reed comes in and takes on both of them by himself, so Dr. Death hits the ring and takes out Reed behind the ref’s back. The Guerreros double-team Daniels in the ring, and the ref calls for the DQ at 3:40.
And we close out with a video package about Butch Reed.

And when we return to Mid-South, it’ll be the end of 1985 again. TIME TRAVEL IS CRAZY, YO.
