By Conor Renshaw on 5 August 2025
WWE has given an update on Gunther’s injury he suffered during his Night 1 SummerSlam match against CM Punk.
On SummerSlam Saturday, Gunther faced CM Punk with his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line, and during the match, Gunther seemed to suffer a nasty facial injury that left him bleeding profusely. On last night’s episode of Raw, Michael Cole provided an update on “The Ring General” and his health status following SummerSlam and said that he suffered a hematoma and an orbital blowout fracture after he tripped over the Spanish announce table during the pay-per-view. Cole said that he will be out indefinitely with this injury, and there is currently no timeline for his return to the ring.

Dave Meltzer reported on the Wrestling Observer Radio that Gunther was dealing with a legitimate nose injury before SummerSlam, but insisted on working through the injury. Meltzer also said that the blood The Ring General had on his face at SummerSlam was “worked blood” and that spot where he seemingly suffered an injury during the match was totally planned.
Who Won The Gunther Vs. CM Punk Match At SummerSlam?
CM Punk faced Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Title in the main event of Night 1 of SummerSlam in a match that went 30 minutes, and in the end, CM Punk emerged victorious as the new World Heavyweight Champion. However, Punk’s celebration was short-lived as Seth Rollins emerged on the stage as Punk was celebrating his win and threw down his crutches and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract. Rollins, after beating Punk down with the Money in the Bank briefcase, delivered a Curb Stomp and picked up the three count to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
What do you think about the latest Gunther injury news? Do you think he is going to be out of action for long? And when he comes back, will he go straight back into the World Heavyweight Title picture?
