Santos Escobar Re-Signs With WWE
By Craig Ballantyne on 8 October 2025
A day after his contract expired, Santos Escobar is reportedly back with WWE.
On October 7th, Santos Escobar’s WWE contract expired, and the star was quickly moved to the alumni section of the company’s website. According to Fightful Select, WWE had been attempting to come to terms with the star, but they were unable to finalize a deal, seemingly due to creative issues.
However, just a day later, PWInsider Elite has reported that Escobar has now come to terms on a new contract. According to the report, WWE made a “sizeably larger offer” than in the previous negotiations. Not only that, but the company is said to have taken the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion’s creative concerns into account. It is currently unknown when Escobar will return to WWE TV.
Santos Escobar Has Not Been On WWE TV Since Worlds Collide
Before signing with WWE in 2019, Santos Escobar wrestled under a mask as El Hijo del Fantasma. The star had successful runs in CMLL, where he was a Trios Champion, and AAA.
In AAA, Escobar unified the promotion’s Fusion and Cruiserweight titles, becoming the first AAA World Cruiserweight Champion, and later reigned as the Latin American Champion. Shortly before leaving the promotion, Escobar lost his mask when LA Park defeated him in a four-way Poker de Aces match, which also featured Penta and Psycho Clown.
Soon after joining WWE, Escobar became the Cruiserweight Champion, defeating Drake Maverick in the finals of a tournament for the title. He then formed Legado Del Fantasma with Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wild. The faction has undergone multiple iterations since then, but Escobar has remained its leader.
Escobar made his main roster debut in October 2022 alongside the other members of Legado Del Fantasma at the time. The group joined Rey Mysterio’s reformed Latino World Order in 2023, but Escobar ultimately turned on them later that year, reforming LDF with Berto and Angel.
Following a lengthy feud with Mysterio’s LWO, Escobar began appearing less and less on WWE TV, with only five matches in 2025. Most recently, he led Legado Del Fantasma to a defeat at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide on June 7th, when they faced Psycho Clown, Pagano, and El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr.
