Nikki Bella Confirms Plans Changed For WWE Clash In Paris
By Craig Ballantyne on 4 September 2025
Nikki Bella has revealed that her match against Becky Lynch was not originally scheduled for WWE Clash In Paris.
At Clash In Paris, Nikki Bella challenged Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship in front of over 30,000 fans in the La Défense Arena. The bout saw Bella come close to winning gold for the first time since 2015, but in the end, The Man was able to catch her in the Lynch Pin to retain her title.
On The Nikki & Brie Show, Bella revealed that she was originally set to challenge Lynch on an episode of Raw, but Naomi’s pregnancy led to plans being changed.
“So from Birmingham until I arrived in Paris, I didn’t go home because I knew, okay, by the time I go [from] England back to [San Francisco International Airport], then have to do SFO back to Paris, I would really be home for two days, crazy jet lagged and to prepare for a match that originally was going to be on Raw, that got moved to the PLE. I’m like, I have to stay overseas and just prep, kick the jet lag out.”
Bella was informed the week before the PLE that she would be wrestling on the show. She believes the decision was made as the card originally only had one women’s bout, with Naomi having been set to defend the Women’s World Title against Stephanie Vaquer.
Nikki Bella Was “In Heaven” At WWE Clash In Paris
Although many fans were impressed by Nikki Bella’s return to the ring despite some missed spots, some on social media were highly critical of her performance. Bella responded to the criticism, saying it’s just a part of life and she won’t let people take away from the fun she had.
“This is a part of life and coming back. Things don’t happen overnight. And if you look at other comebacks, like, I’m not here to do a one-off and go to the [Performance Center] and train the same match for five hours every day to perform that 15 minutes that I just put 30 hours in.
“I’m doing it as I have so much passion and love for this business. And that’s why I was like, I’m not going to let people take away of how much fun I had out there and how I loved every second. I was like in heaven. Like, I truly love wrestling. That’s why I’m here. That’s why I’m traveling every week.”
