What the World Was Watching: WWF This Tuesday in Texas! (1991)

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are in the booth, live from San Antonio, Texas.  According to thehistoryofwwe.com, the show drew a sellout crowd of 8,000.  The show drew a buyrate of 1.00, which roughly equates to 140,000 buys.  Those were less than half of the number of households that bought Survivor Series, making the WWF quickly abandon this experiment of doing small, cheap, weekly pay-per-views.

What the World Was Watching: WWF Prime Time Wrestling – December 2, 1991

The roundtable of Vince McMahon, Gorilla Monsoon, Sean Mooney, Bobby Heenan, and Mr. Perfect jump into an argument over whether WWF President Jack Tunney should have the right to digitally censor Ric Flair’s championship belt.

A replay of WWF President Jack Tunney’s Survivor Series announcement that Randy Savage is immediately reinstated and will face Jack Roberts at This Tuesday in Texas is shown.  There is also a replay of Tunney announcing a rematch for the WWF Championship between the Undertaker and Hulk Hogan from the Survivor Series pay-per-view.

What the World Was Watching: WWF Wrestling Challenge – December 1, 1991

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are commentating today’s episode, which kicks off a new taping cycle in Springfield, Massachusetts.  According to thehistoryofwwe.com, the taping took place on November 12 and drew a sellout crowd of 8,900.

A replay of WWF President Jack Tunney’s Survivor Series comments about Randy Savage and Jake Roberts is shown.  Tunney’s later comments ordering a rematch between the Undertaker and Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship are also shown.

Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Mr. Perfect are in the booth, starting a new round of television tapings from New Haven, Connecticut.  According to thehistoryofwwe.com, these tapings were held on November 13.

McMahon tells fans that the Undertaker is the new WWF Champion.

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan handle commentary, broadcasting live from Detroit, Michigan.  According to thehistoryofwwe.com, the show, which took place on November 27, drew a crowd of 17,500.  The show’s buyrate was 2.20 (300,000 buys), a steep decline from the 3.0 number of the prior year’s edition (400,000 buys).

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan handle commentary duties for this Prime Time special, which aired on USA Network on the evening of November 24.  The matches were taped in Utica, New York on November 11.  According to thehistoryofwwe.com, the card drew a sellout crowd of 5,000 fans.

Vince McMahon moderates tonight’s panel of Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper, Bobby Heenan, and Mr. Perfect.

Monsoon argues that the Undertaker and Paul Bearer failed to take out Hulk Hogan on Superstars.  However, Perfect makes a good point that the Undertaker was unfazed by Savage’s chairshot, showing that nothing will stop the Dead Man from winning at Survivor Series.

What the World Was Watching: WWF Prime Time Wrestling – November 11, 1991

The cheesy opening for the show that talked about Arsenio Hall and Oprah is gone.  Vince McMahon welcomes fans to a new format where he sits at the head of a table.  Gorilla Monsoon and Roddy Piper are to his right and Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect are to his left.

The participants debate Sid Justice’s injury.  Piper argues that Sid should show up to Survivor Series with his cast on, while Heenan and Perfect dismiss that because WWF President Jack Tunney will not allow for that to happen.  Monsoon adds that Tunney needs to make a decision about Randy Savage’s reinstatement so the Big Bossman and the Legion of Doom can plan strategy for their elimination match.

Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Randy Savage are doing commentary, beginning a new taping cycle in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  According to thehistoryofwwe.com, these tapings took place on October 21 and drew a crowd of 6,000. 

McMahon announces that Sid Justice suffered a torn bicep in a recent match against Jake Roberts and will not be able to make it to Survivor Series.  Sid does a taped promo announcing that he is on the road to recovery and appealing to WWF President Jack Tunney to reinstate Savage.

What the World Was Watching: WWF Wrestling Challenge – November 3, 1991

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are doing commentary, concluding the taping cycle in Huntington, West Virginia.  Heenan says that Randy Savage was denied reinstatement because he did not bribe WWF President Jack Tunney.  When Monsoon says he saw a weakening in Tunney’s position, Heenan adds that this just means Tunney is now open to being bribed with credit cards or frequent flyer miles.
