Morning Daily News Update: May 5, 2026 – Kairi Sane Likely To Return For WWE Backlash

By Conor Renshaw on 5 May 2026

Morning all!

It’s Tuesday, and it’s time for the Morning Daily News Update!

There’s also a bunch of new posts on the blog from yesterday:

Phrederic has reviewed AJPW’s Champion Carnival from April 12, 2026
Jabroniville uploaded a new Joshi Spotlight for GAEA Japan from Christmas Day 2001
LSisco has a new WTWWW for WWF Monday Night Raw from January 1, 1996

Kairi Sane May Return For One Final WWE Appearance

Kairi Sane could still appear at WWE Backlash despite her recent release, with internal belief suggesting there is a better than 50% chance of her returning. The potential appearance would be used to wrap up her unfinished storyline involving Iyo Sky and Asuka, which was left unresolved following her departure. Her release had been seen as surprising given her central role in that programme and strong fan support.

There May Be More WWE Releases Coming

WWE could be set for further roster cuts following last weekend’s releases, with Bryan Alvarez noting that additional departures may still be coming and that some names were released earlier than announced. He also suggested several SmackDown talents could be at risk, while situations such as Tama Tonga remain unclear, and others like Shinsuke Nakamura have yet to reappear on television.

WWE’s Chelsea Green Announces She’s Undergone A Heart Procedure

Chelsea Green has revealed she recently underwent a heart procedure to treat SVT, sharing that doctors finally diagnosed the condition after 10 years and that she is now recovering. The update comes as she remains sidelined following a broken ankle suffered in February, meaning her return to WWE could be further delayed.

Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods Issue First Statements Since WWE Release

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have issued their first statements following their WWE departures, with Kingston encouraging others not to settle for less than their worth and Woods thanking fans and colleagues for his career. The duo, released after contract discussions, are now under 90-day non-compete clauses, while tributes from figures like Big E highlight their legacy as part of The New Day.
