Punk Should Beat Cena

Scott,
While I don't think this will happen, given the lay of the land now I think you can argue Punk should beat Cena for the WWE Title instead of Cody.

Nearly 2 months removed from Wrestlemania, that awful finish has done some real damage to Cody. I think there could be a bit of a backlash if they just turn around and put the title back on him at Summerslam, feeling forced. I think it's better for Cody to spend the rest of the year in other stories.

On the other hand, the fans are still all in on Punk and it would seem prudent to give him the big Summerslam match with Cena and the win. This gets Punk away from the interminable Seth feud for at least a little while and puts him in a new environment as a Smackdown regular.

Maybe we get Cody/Sami in the KOR Finals and Seth's crew comes down to screw Sami. Cody won't take the win that way and winds up fighting them off leading to an unaware Sami to get a flash victory. Cody gives Sami the handshake and raises his hand afterwards.

Essentially, it's swapping Cody and Punk to freshen their stories.

And if you want to get to Cody/Punk as a main event for WM 42, I think it plays better with Punk as the defending Champ and Cody chasing.

After a year as champ, you need to give Cody real adversity. A match with Rock would be perfect for Summerslam but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Give Punk a 6 month reign, let Cody fight through Seth's crew, win the Chamber and then I think you'll have the people wanting to see Cody win the title again at WM 42.


I don't know man, if you're building the museum of people who get over on their own and 100% don't need the World title right now, CM Punk is your lead exhibition. He's basically the Undertaker now, the guy who fans will always buy as a star but you can beat when you need heat for someone. I think putting the belt on him would be a waste.
