Two Cena Ideas

By Scott Keith on 26 May 2025

Hey Scott,

Hope everyone is doing well.

1) I think most people would agree that Cena's heel-turn has been underwhelming, and that Rock not showing up at “WM” took a lot of the wind out of the Cena/Cody match. I get that Rock is both insanely busy and on some weird ego-trip where he keeps messing up storylines, but why not just have the “Bloodline” serve as Cena's enforcers? It would keep the connection between Cena and Rock alive without Rock having to be there, and a John Cena that relies on the interference of multiple people in order to keep his title would definitely make him more of a heel than he currently is.

2) Cena's backstage promo on “SNME” where he told Jey that he (Cena) was going to win the World Title and retire with both belts got me thinking: Wouldn't them doing a play on “MITB, 2011”, with the roles reversed, be a hell of a story? Cena wins the other belt around “SummerSlam”, has two or three successful defenses, starts bragging that he only has a few more appearances before he can retire with the titles, and then – all these years later – Punk ends-up finding himself in the position of having to keep someone else from leaving with the titles, in order to save the company that he himself hated for so long? It'd be a hell of a redemption arc. “Survivor Series” seems like the obvious place to do that match, especially if Cena wants to turn face again for his final match, but they could also use that as a way to juice their December PPV, or even juice the last “Raw” or “Smackdown” of the year. Thoughts?

(Also, going back to the “Bloodline”, I like that Jeff “JC Mateo” Cobb was hired and am glad to see Bronson Reed back, but does anyone else feel like their roles should have been reversed? I'm pretty sure that neither of them are part of the Anoa'i family, but Reed is Samoan and was kind of, sort of an unofficial member going into “WarGames” about six months ago. And when Jacob eventually turns face, I think Jacob/Bronson definitely seems like a much bigger match than Jacob/Solo or Jacob/JC. Meanwhile, Mateo isn't well-known to the WWE audience, but they obviously have some plans for him, so why not add him to the Rollins-Breakker-Heyman group in order to give him more of a rub?)

Take care,
– Stu

Sadly for me, Heel Cena doesn’t feel like a true main event character. Also he doesn’t need to be a heel with this run if Rock isn’t involved.
As for the rest, I leave it to the blog.
