WWE has a Rock Problem
By Scott Keith on 21 April 2025
So sorry to hear about your Mother, Scott.
Hours after Wrestlemania, I'm still completely baffled by the booking of Cody/Cena. Not the result, but how they got there. This has to be the biggest creative misfire of the HHH era, given the magnitude of the match.
Based on all the rumors in the sheets, it really seems plausible that Rock put a lot of creative in disarray again.
- 24 hours before the show airs, he returns on Smackdown a week before Elimination Chamber seemingly on a whim. There was an advertised card online scrapped with his appearance
- Big Dave reports Rock wanted Cody to turn heel, and while HHH was against it ultimately Cody himself has to decline.
- 24 hours before Elimination Chamber spoilers come out that Drew is winning.
- At the Chamber show, the order changes day of with the Cody/Rock angle moving from the middle of the show to the main event.
- The Rock disappeared into the ether after the Chamber, couldn't even be bothered to do a social media post about anything in character. Cody and Cena only mention him twice in passing during their many exchanges.
Reading the tea leaves, it sure seems like the Rock wasn't happy his creative pitch was turned down again and basically took his ball and went home. Seems like maybe Drew really was pitched to win at some point, maybe as HHH negotiated w/ Rock off his dumb idea.
At the very least, it seems like Rock was non-committal about a Wrestlemania appearance until very recently. If they knew he was never showing up, then it's on HHH for booking that disaster. And even if it was pushed by Rock…Cody, HHH and Cena all share blame for going along with it and landing on anything else.
Dude either needs to commit like he did for WM 40, or stay out of the way.
I CAN STILL CHANGE HIM.
But yeah.
