Cody
By Scott Keith on 18 April 2025
Hey Scott,
I'm going to preface this with my earliest memory of watching wrestling is Bundy attacking Hogan on Saturday Night's Main Event. I understand I am no longer the target audience.
That said:
I don't get Cody. I'm not arguing attendance, merch etc etc. I just don't buy Cody as THE guy. It feels like he's a cosplayer, telling people he's the captain or the quarterback or whatever else he's saying on media. David Shoemaker just wrote an article about him:
After the match, after Reigns had already left for the back, in an arena still full of confused, despondent fans, Rhodes sat in the ring with his arms on his knees and cried.
The guy just main evented Wrestlemania and he's crying? And not the fake Hogan crying to pull in the audience. Real tears after the cameras have stopped rolling? It screams spoiled, entitled nepo baby who has spent his entire career being Dusty's kid instead of building his own legacy. Who is the character besides a kid leeching off his father's fame with a cool song?
In closing: Cody Rhodes is the wrestling version of Kendall Roy from Succession.
Okay, bring on the Abe Simpson memes
Tom (Shawn Michaels truther)
Once again, I like Cody just fine and I’m happy he’s the main guy and he’s really great for the role.
