A lot of people on the blog and elsewhere have commented on VKM's childhood being a massive factor in his adult persona. I think I might have mentioned it before, but Abraham J Riesman's book Ringmaster is really well-researched in that the author talked to
an absolute ton of people from VKM's younger years, and provided material that was sorely lacking from the Mr McMahon doco.

Yeah there was a LOT of material lacking from that doc.
