Scott,

My guess is that story of Savage getting a 108 fever from the cobra isn't entirely true – second level kayfabe, if you will. I'm sure there are other examples of this – can you think of any?

I think Bret Hart also having a crippling fever before dropping the title to the Mountie is the best example of what you're looking for.
