Seven Days in Women’s Wrestling – February 11 to 18, 2024

It’s another week in the world of professional wrestling, and as usual we have a lot to talk about. WWE is on the road to Elimination Chamber, AEW is building at least one title program, and ROH has a shiny new title of its own.

Let’s see what the big three had for us last week!

Monday – WWE Monday Night Raw

Tonight’s Card: Only one of six matches tonight involved women for approximately 9:15 of in-ring time. Two women saw action compared to fourteen men.

Liv Morgan defeated Zoey Stark in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match in 9:13. We didn’t think Liv was losing this early on her revenge tour, so the outcome wasn’t really in doubt. It was a good match.

Other Developments: Becky Lynch and Nia Jax have an in-ring chat that leads to a Rhea Ripley fight. Chelsea Green would like to speak to a manager as we set up a last-chance battle royal next week for the final Elimination Chamber match.

Final Score: After giving the women almost half an hour in-ring last week and weaving them throughout the show, we return to the Raw of old this week. A ten minute match in a three hour show is not nearly acceptable, especially since they weren’t given much focus outside of the ring either. C-.

Tuesday – WWE NXT

Tonight’s Card: Three out of seven matches tonight included women for approximately 11:00. Six women saw action in comparison to fourteen men.

Lola Vice defeated Tatum Paxley in 3:55. Competitive but Lola gets the win. I don’t like Tatum losing here. Tatum is out cold and carried out by Lyra Valkyria postmatch.

Jaida Parker defeated Riz in 4:03. These two got some attention from this match later in the week on Twitter, in particular Jaida.

Kiana James defeated Brinley Reece in 3:12. A showcase for Kiana more than anything else.

Other Developments: Chase U gets their stuff back, with Thea Hail excited for her upcoming date and Jacy Jayne paying off Riz for something. Lyra Valkyria checks on Tatum and accepts Shotzi’s challenge for next week (followed by the miraculous healing of Tatum after Lyra leaves). Meta-Four argue with Jaida Parker and Brinley Reece. Roxanne Perez complains to the women’s locker room about next week’s Lyra/Shotzi match, hitting Wren Sinclair. Ava tells Roxanne that Wren has requested a match next week.

Final Score: The three matches didn’t add up to much time, but there’s still a large focus on the women’s division throughout the show. That’s what NXT does best. B.

Wednesday – AEW Dynamite

Tonight’s Card: One of six matches tonight involved women for approximately 9:00. Two women saw action compared to twelve men.

Willow Nightingale defeated Skye Blue in 8:49. A good match that advances the Willow & Kris vs Spooky Girls story as well as Stokely’s infatuation with Kris. It is interesting to note how Skye has kinda fallen down the ranks after being the chosen one for the better part of 2023.

Other Developments: Toni Storm debuts her newest film in which she gets her matching tattoo with Deonna Purrazzo covered up. In a response segment, Deonna promises to break Toni’s arm.

Final Score: The usual for Dynamite – one match under ten minutes with a commercial break and a random other segment. At least the match had storyline purposes this week. C-.

Thursday – ROH on HonorClub

Tonight’s Card: Four out of nine matches tonight involved women for approximately 32:30 of in-ring time. Eight women saw action compared to eighteen men.

Queen Aminata defeated J-Rod in a first round Women’s World TV Title Tournament match in 6:04. This was J-Rod’s ROH debut though she had a match in 2022 on Dark and 2023 on Dark Elevation. That said, there was zero expectation she would win this and Aminata advanced.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Rachael Ellering in a first round Women’s World TV Title Tournament match in 10:49. Tag teams explode! A good match. Rachael gets her shoulder popped back into place mid-match.

Mercedes Martinez defeated Trish Adora in a first round Women’s World TV Title Tournament match in 9:45. This is a main event to me. These two had a good match with not a surprising result considering how each woman’s ROH career has gone. I really wish they’d give Trish a chance to win something one day.

Diamente defeated Kiera Hogan in a first round Women’s World TV Title Tournament match in 6:31. Something lost on a lot of viewers is that these two are a real-life couple. It was fun to watch them together here.

Other Stories: Athena and Nyla Rose battle throughout the show, setting up a two-out of-three falls table match next week. Ellering and Hirsch reunite backstage.

Final Score: Holy shit. Where has THIS been? After weeks of announcing the title and the women trading wins in meaningless 3-5 minute matches, the TV Title tournament actually starts and the women get the time and development. Not only did the women get over half an hour in-ring, but the Athena/Nyla story wrapped throughout the show and we have five matches set for next week. A+.

Thursday – TNA Impact

Tonight’s Card: Two of tonight’s six matches involved women for approximately six minutes of in-ring action. Four women saw action compared to ten men.

Jordynne Grace defeated Savannah Evans in 2:37. An easy win followed by Gisele Shaw attacking Grace. Easy story advancement.

Dani Luna defeated Killer Kelly in 2:47. Thanks to the distraction of Jody Threat, Luna gets the surprise win in this unadvertised match.

Other Developments: Ash by Elegance will be making her premiere next week.

Final Score: It’s a very interesting time in TNA with the sudden management change and it’ll be interesting to see what this means for the women’s division in the next few months. A C today.

Thursday – WWE Main Event

Tonight’s Card: One of two matches involved women for approximately five minutes. Two women and two men saw action.

Chelsea Green defeated Tegan Nox in 5:00. Chelsea is becoming our Main Event Queen. An enjoyable match and Chelsea just continues to nail everything.

Final Score: Even numbers, no complaints. B.

Friday – AEW Rampage

Tonight’s Card: One of four matches tonight involved women for approximately eight minutes. Two women saw action compared to twenty men.

Queen Aminata defeated Anna Jay in 8:00. After an 0-7 start for the year in AEW, Aminata gets her first win and that All Elite graphic. Good for her! When’s still seven wins away from even having a .500% record though, so there’s still work to be done.

Other Developments: Ruby Soho walks away from her former Outcast partners as Harley Cameron pops Saraya in the boob with a spoon and makes a Simpsons “knifey-spoony” reference, immediately becoming one of my favorite wrestlers. Soho has a date set next week with Angelo Parker. Willow is mad at Stoke.

Final Score: I’m glad the women had a little time in this one hour show that crammed twenty men into it. Not mad at any of it, really. B.

Friday – NXT Level Up

Tonight’s Card: One of two matches involved women for approximately six minutes of action. Two women and two men competed.

Izzi Dame defeated Gigi Dolin in 5:44. Your usual for this show.

Final Score: Level Up! Pretty much always a B. Nothing wrong with it.

Friday – TNA Xplosion

Tonight’s Card: Zero of the two matches tonight involved women.

Final Score: Since its return, Xplosion has yet to feature a women’s match. F.

Friday – WWE Friday Night SmackDown

Tonight’s Card: Two of five matches tonight included women for approximately eighteen minutes of action. Four women competed versus eight men.

Tiffany Stratton defeated Zelina Vega in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match in 8:18. Elektra Lopez made her presence known, helping Tiffy get the win.

Naomi defeated Alba Fyre in 9:18. Mostly an extended squash for Naomi, but it was really cool to get this match that wasn’t even in the cards six months ago.

Other Developments: Damage CTRL have words for Bayley. Bayley and Dakota Kai continue to try to get on the same page. Tiffany brags to Liv Morgan and Bianca Belair before all being told to shut up by prospect Jade Cargill.

Final Score: SmackDown struggles with pacing the women on the show,yet tonight they had two matches and other segments even with the Rock/Reigns segment. More of this. A.

WWE / NXT: Over 8.5 hours of TV, the company presented eight women’s matches with approximately 44 minutes of in-ring action. Sixteen different women saw time in-ring.

AEW / ROH: Over 5 hours of TV, the company presented six women’s matches with approximately 49:50 minutes of in-ring action. Eleven different women saw in-ring time, with Queen Aminata having two matches.

TNA: Over 2.5 hours of TV, the company presented two women’s matches with approximately six minutes of in-ring time. Four women saw action.
