Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez Episode One: “Love & WWE”

By Kat Bourne on 4 February 2024

Announced in November 2023, WWE released the first eight episodes of “Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez” this week. Exclusive to Hulu (and Disney+ through the Disney Bundle), the reality series focuses on Montez Ford and Bianca Belair. I’ll be taking a look at this series episode-by-episode.

Episode one is titled, fittingly, “Love & WWE.”

We start with an introduction to our couple. Bianca Belair introduces herself as the current WWE Raw Women’s Champion, while Montez Ford tells us he is in a tag team called the Street Profits. Bianca tells us they are husband and wife as we see clips of them at home, including Montez jokingly saying he pays a fourth of the bills. As we see Montez backstage with flowers, she calls him the craziest person she knows. We see clips of the Profits being told their match is being cut (first episode of Total Divas vibe!) to Bianca asking questions about pregnancy. Opening montage!

Bianca tells us that the next few months are the busiest time of the year, as were months away from WrestleMania. She tells us your main goal is get to WrestleMania (unless you step aside for a member of the Board of Directors, I guess). Bianca says she is trying to become the longest reigning Raw Women’s Champion ever. Montez says she is the prime example of a main event talent and that’s where he wants to be at too. They don’t just give away those opportunities though, and he feels that WrestleMania is uncertain. Bianca says they’re in this together and that’s what makes them who they are.

WrestleMania, April 2, 2023, Los Angeles. Michael Cole welcomes us to WrestleMania as Bianca tells us this is her first time walking into the show as champion and she’s walking in with everything to lose. She’s the one at the mountaintop, the one everybody is chasing. She says it is the start of her cementing her legacy but questions if she belongs there.

We see clips of the Divas of Compton group dancing as Mike Rome introduces Bianca to a loud ovation. We see clips of her match against Asuka, as we zoom to the title card with Bianca down on the mat.

Ten Weeks Earlier. We get clips of various fans asking questions for the couple, including one about when they met. Bianca says they met when they started in NXT in 2016, she says it was love at first sight and “that is a beautiful man. Keep him away from me.” Bianca says Montez ignored him for three months, which he says was because you can’t just rush up on somebody like that.

Orlando, Florida – Bianca & Montez’s House. Bianca is getting ready and telling Montez it’s time to go. The Royal Rumble is coming, which Montez classifies as like the playoffs. Bianca specifies that the winner of the Rumble gets their choice of match at WrestleMania and it could change their career. We see clips of Bianca winning the match in 2021 as she tells us that she unfortunately is not in it this year. Instead as champion, she has a solo match while Montez is in the Rumble.

The couple in their matching PJs are packing as Montez shows off his loafers. To be fair, they’re nice. Bianca tells us this time of the year is very challenging as Mania season doesn’t give you much time for yourself or each other. We see Bianca’s closet, which is an absolute mountain of flashy clothes. That’s barely an exaggeration – it’s a LOT.

San Antonio, Texas. The couple arrive followed by Travonda & Leonard, Bianca’s Mom and Dad. Following behind them is Dara, Montez’s Mom, picking on them for walking so fast and leaving her behind. It’s immediately clear where Montez gets his sense of humor. Bianca says it’s great that their family is there for every moment of the weekend, while Montez specifies “EVERY MOMENT.”

We see the family out to eat as Bianca is approached by a young male fan asking for her autograph. Montez asks the kid what he’s eating to be so tall in second grade. Montez gives an autograph too, saying it probably isn’t worth as much but maybe it has some sort of value. Dara asks Montez if he’s fully healed, as we see headlines of him being sidelined with a calf injury. He says he’s back and you always want to make a statement showing that you’re back. For him, that’s the Rumble. Montez is trying to think of something to do to make a statement. Leonard offers to put a few things together for him, though Montez might get killed doing it.

Travonda mentions that she saw Candice LeRae, WWE Superstar and her baby. She told Candice the baby looked good on her but also tells Bianca, “it would look good on you.” Baby vibes! Montez takes a drink and says he’s ready today. Bianca wants to be a wrestler and be a mom but she wants to really make sure she’s ready. She wants to make sure she’s ready to share her chicken nuggets every day of her life. Montez: “Why they gotta be chicken nuggets? Bianca says kids always want chicken nuggets, and Montez says to “give them the damn fries.” Bianca tells the table she’s scared she would be a good mom. Travonda reminds her that she’s 60.

Royal Rumble. We get clips of Bianca getting ready, at the makeup table and doing a photo shoot. She gets a good luck kiss as Bianca tells us she is high anxiety and Montez always reminds her to have fun. We see the parents ringside as Bianca is upset that they texted Montez and not Bianca to let him know they were inside. Montez gives her a playful smack on the ass as she heads to that long, long, long entrance ramp.

Bianca tells us about her opponent, Alexa Bliss, who is five feet of fury. Bianca says she didn’t want wrestling as a kid but was very athletic. Mark Henry saw a video of her and said she had everything to be a Superstar. She says she goes out to be the EST and explains that catchphrase but also that she gets to express her femininity with her gear and kiss prints. Montez says she’s accomplished more than a lot have in their entire careers, but people don’t understand the work she’s put into it. Bianca gets the win.

Montez walks up to the Gorilla position backstage for the Rumble, saying this has been his dream. Bianca explains the rules of the Rumble and what happens if you win as we see a clip of (Unnamed Beast) eliminating Dawkins. Montez enters at 23 as he tells us he’s been a fan since childhood. Bianca says the ultimate goal is to win, but sometimes just showing what you can do leads to more opportunities. We see Damien Priest eliminate Ford right in front of the parents.

Day After Royal Rumble. We’re at the hotel as Montez is in bed on his phone and Bianca is still pulling rhinestones out of her hair from the night before. He asks her how the Rumble was, saying “I was there… for a short period of time, but I was there.” She says it was fun but rough. Bianca says being married in the business is hard because you have to find a way to balance excitement over opportunities you’re having while also respecting what your partner is going through. Montez says he has to keep the energy to be supportive with what he has going on. Bianca wishes her match was better. It’s just as hard to stay on top with the talented eomen’s roster as we see clips for Charotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Chelsea Green, Rhea Ripley and Alexa.

Bianca asks Montez how he feels and she knows he was only in there for ten seconds. He corrects that, saying “Eleven.” Montez said he knew they had other stuff to do so he didn’t want to waste time. Bianca asks if he jokes about being okay with it because he is, or to hide the pain. He says he’s not okay with it and he’s so proud of her, but feels like he has a lot to offer too and it upsets him. He says he’s had patience for eight years, and she says it’s coming. He jokes that he just needs a little bit of time to shine.

60 Days Until WrestleMania. Montez brags about his parallel parking job at the Performance Center, while Bianca tells him that he just backed into a parking space and that’s not parallel parking. Montez walks in with Angelo Dawkins, Montez’s Tag Team Partner and Montez tells us they’ve been partners for years and it is fantastic, but it’s always been a goal to be WWE Champion.

Elsewhere in the Performance Center, Bianca is getting her ankle taped up by a trainer as we meet Liv Morgan, WWE Superstar. Liv says she hurt herself at the Rumble too as Bianca tells us that she and Liv came up together through the company and she’s one of her closest friends on the roster. Liv winces in pain and says she wants to go to Mania and honestly, she’s trying to finesse her way this year. Bianca says she finesses her way to everything.

Liv asks Bianca what she’s doing for Mania. Bianca explains to us that she has a guaranteed match at Mania but has no idea who it is against. We see Rhea Ripley – WWE Superstar win the Rumble and Bianca says she thinks Rhea is going to pick her because it would be a good match. Bianca tells Liv she’s got to make this match special.

Back to the Profits as Montez tells Dawkins he wants to work on something to get to Mania, something epic. Dawkins says Ford can always jump higher but that’s not enough. Liv asks Bianca if she thinks Montez gets “lowkey jelly” and Bianca says she never gets that vibe, but she knows he wants it too. Ford explains all the jumps he’s done and he’s gotta figure out something.

Dawkins suggests slamming somebody and that hits like a lightbulb for Ford. Montez thinks “somebody big” and you’ve gotta make that spotlight. Montez says he’s going to slam the biggest dude in the WWE, Otis, as we get a fantastic clip of Otis dramatically walking backstage to lead us to commercials. Every commercial break should feature Otis menacingly walking.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, Monday Night Raw. 48 Days Until WrestleMania. Bianca and Michin, WWE Superstar are watching Rhea Ripley enter the ring as Bianca remarks that Rhea is feeling herself. We flashback to NXT TakeOver: Portland for some clips as Michin tells Bianca she’s excited just because of what they’ve done before. Bianca says they have a lot of history and that’s what makes it special. We watch Mami speak, probably making this show’s audience also fall in love. Rhea chooses Charlotte, as we get a highlight package on Charlotte Flair, SmackDown Women’s Champion. Michin gives Bianca a pat on the shoulder and walks away as Bianca wonders what’s next and if the people are tired of her. “Well damn.”

We end with a “This Season” montage of things to look forward to this season, including Montez going commando and Bianca holding babies.

I really enjoyed this! It was well produced and edited, but Bianca and Montez are such magnetic personalities that work well in this format. It’s also an easy half-hour watch that flies by. I’m looking forward to next week!
