Wyatt Idea
By Scott Keith on 14 January 2024
Don't worry, I'm not suggesting some sort of post-mortem angle.
I was a big Bray Wyatt fan, and was excited when he returned in 2022, but as soon as he started the “Uncle Howdy” stuff, I rolled my eyes at the idea of getting more B-movie nonsense. He was a hell of a talker and could creep-out his opponents by cutting promos on them, it wasn't necessary to build an entire world of cryptic characters in goofy masks around him.
Anyway, I had an idea in early 2023 that I thought would have been a good compromise between the two extremes: let him go back to something like his 2013 cult-leader role, but mix things up by having him manage a group of female wrestlers. In particular, a group of tiny blondes, namely Alexa, Liv, and Candice LeRae. Remember the “overly attached girlfriend” meme? Something like that. Nothing cryptic, nothing supernatural, just a charismatic guy with an army of tiny, brainwashed psychos behind him. He'd still be a cult-leader of sorts, but also a grifter, getting a portion of their contracts, merchandise, and whatever “bonus” money they'd get for holding championships.
He'd spend most of his TV time talking instead of wrestling (which a lot of people thought he was bad at), but now he'd be working with established characters and could focus his promos on particular opponents/targets instead of vague figures from his past.
On the rare occasion that he did wrestle, they could interfere without fear of repercussion from his opponent, as none of the guys would hit a woman, especially a pint-sized one. Same thing if someone interrupted one of his promos and wanted to fight him right then and there, they'd willingly act as human shields. Eventually, add a fourth woman to the group; I always like the idea of one member of a stable looking different from the others, so add Nikki Cross, or Shotzi, or maybe someone like Raquel as the muscle of the group.
Thoughts?
(Also, as an aside, does anyone else feel like we all got over his death pretty quickly? Usually when a wrestler dies while still employed by a major company, their memory sticks around for quite a while. Like, it's hard to look at Mark Briscoe without thinking of Jay Briscoe.)
Take care,
– Stu
You know there was another famous cult leader who had an army of blonde women doing his bidding. Wasn't a very nice guy.
