Concept Shows
By Scott Keith on 6 January 2024
I've noticed a pattern where shows, initially introduced with unique concepts or differentiated styles, often seem to converge back into a format similar to the flagship or adopt a secondary status. For instance, Shotgun Saturday Night started with edgy locations but transitioned to a more standard undercard setup. Similarly, SmackDown was initially positioned as the “wrestling” show in contrast to RAW's “sports entertainment.” Collision moving towards Dynamite format from its unique early days.
I am intrigued by the reasons behind this trend and would appreciate your insights. What factors contribute to these shifts, and why do differentiated shows sometimes return to a more conventional format?
New toy syndrome.
