Double J vs History
By Scott Keith on 5 January 2024
Hey Scott,
Given the lack of Jeff Jarrett on TV lately, I'm assuming you've had to get your fill on the TNA Wrestling channel on Pluto TV. If you were to go back and watch matches from his TNA era (e.g. Hardcore Justice 2005 vs AJ Styles), would he get the nostalgia benefit in retrospect? Watching that match in in particular, with Tito Ortiz as special referee, there are a lot of Memphis Moments that would tickle your current fancy. If you saw it contemporarily though, I'm sure it would have annoyed you. How does the lense of time overcome your previous match ratings and preferences? Other wrestlers/matches that have significantly changed over time?
The problem with the Jarrett TNA stuff is that it wasn't far enough removed from the previous era yet to be nostalgic. It was just more “Chosen One” Russo nonsense carried over from WCW, whereas now he had been gone long enough that it actually felt fresh and different again, especially when compared to the presentation of the rest of the show.
