The WWE championship….60 years and done?
By Scott Keith on 25th April 2023
But, WWE officially lists the founding of the original world title
(and the start of Buddy Rogers' reign as the first champion) on April
25, 1963.
Incredibly, almost 60 years to the exact day later, did we just see
the end of the original world title's lineage? Roman Reigns'
“thousand day reign” refers only to the Universal Title, since he
didn't win the 1963 lineage belt until Wrestlemania 38. It seems like
the original lineage title has now been subsumed into Roman's
universal title run, whereas this new World Heavyweight Title/Raw
World Title/B+ Player Participation Trophy title has an entirely new
lineage.
It may be dumb to get worked up over the history of championships in a
fake sport, but it will be pretty lame if 60 years of history is
erased because Vince is too lazy or uncreative to come up with a way
to have Roman just lose the original WWE title.
