Hey Scott,
We've seen a lot of promos that to some measure or another violate the illusion of pro wrestling. And while I think everybody can agree that “he didn't follow the script” is total trash, we can also enjoy things that peeled back the curtain slightly i.e. the Pipebomb.
So where is your particular line for kayfabe breaking bullshit? Was Mark getting “too into his character” the line? Hunter being held down for 2 years? Sunny Days? When is it a playful reference to behind the scenes business that enhances a feud and when does it kill your suspension of disbelief?
It doesn’t bother me as long as it can be explained somehow within a storyline, and it builds to a match. So for example, Punk and the Elite getting into a backstage fight is something that could fill both. People getting held down is OK as well as long as you can establish an authority figure to put the heat on. So for me the line is stuff that needs a backstory outside of the program to explain the reference and can’t build to a specific match.
