Rewatching old Manias and came to Wrestlemania 9 and I had a random thought.
Let's say the main event goes exactly like it did, only Yoko submits to the sharpshooter, Bret Hart wins, and then immediately Fuji throws the salt in his eyes. He's downed, Yoko boots him a few times, and Hogan comes out to make the save, chases Yoko and Fuji away, then DROPS THE LEG ON BRET! Hogan goes heel, challenges Bret for Summerslam, and that's your big program.
I'm not asking could it have happened (it couldn't, Hogan never would have agreed and they wouldn't have done it) but in hindsight, would it have worked? Was the fanbase sick enough of Hogan's act to boo him in a feud against Bret? Would it have reignited his career in the WWF long enough to keep him around for a few more years? How might business have changed?
I think it would have worked. Vince loves Superstar Graham and would have immediately grasped where to go with Hulk. But if he didn’t go to WCW as a result, that might have killed WCW because Turner could only sustain losses so long, especially with the merger coming.
