This is the second year in a row where the big NXT show was held on the same day as Night 1 of “WM”. My question is simply, why?
Did they learn nothing from WMs 32 thru 35? It's just too much wrestling in one day (especially when you know that there's still the whole second half of WM the very next night) and completely burns out the audience. Now, granted, I get that they're not in the same building with the same fans, but I'm sure that plenty of the people that will be attending WM will watch S&D on their phones, and for the home audience that doesn't want to worry about spoilers, it just means a longer amount of time to sit on the couch.
The only reason I can think of for doing this is because it may get more eyes on NXT than if they did it on Friday or whatever. But considering how much NXT has changed over the last 12+ months, would it really matter when it's on? I feel like the people that watch the weekly show will force themselves to sit through the WM pre-pre-show, and that those that don't watch the weekly show aren't going to bother anyway.
Or just incorporate some NXT matches into the WM preshow. Or if there's a particularly talented NXT wrestler, let them have a big moment. Bianca/Asuka sounds really good, but I think that Asuka/Meiko sounds even better. How about Tyler Bate against any number of athletic hosses (Brock, Drew, Sheamus, Lashley, etc.)?
I dunno, maybe I'm wrong on everything. Thoughts?
It’s a weird scheduling thing, but otherwise you’re head to head with the ROH PPV on Friday so there’s not a lot of good choices.
