It gets brought up a lot in the AEW threads just how far Sammy has fallen. A year ago he was competing for the TNT Title and in a ton of Dynamite main events. He beat Miro (who just had a really hot run) for the belt, holds it for months, trades it with Cody
and wins it back in a crazy stuntshow, trades it with Scorpio… but things just go wrong along the way. Crowds turn on him, the angle sucks, he has a 12-day reign, and he disappears from the top of the card.
Now it's 2023 and he's back to being Jericho's minion and he's not main eventing anymore. He's just hanging around in the background and often barely even reacting to guys dissing him (he sat there chewing gum while Starks ripped on him). He & Tay were so unlikable
they got turned heel practically by accident (though this might just be because the fanboys considered Tay their waifu and were pissed that she was with someone else, haha- that or backlash over publicly proposing to a girl and then mysteriously hooking up
with Tay within months).
Like, in early 2022 Sammy looked like he was going to be a superstar and a main eventer. Now it's looking like he has “X-Pac Heat”, nobody cares, and he's noticeably bored on TV. He's not only cycled back to where he was, he's even further back than he was
before!
Has anyone in the past couple of years fallen further than this? Is Sammy doomed, or is there a light at the end of the tunnel, do you think?
