With signs suggesting the Punk AEW run over, where do you think they were heading with Punks run?
The obvious signs point to him passing the strap to MJF, but would he have done that as a face or heel?
They were obviously going to continue the pairing with FTR, but were they going to turn, too? All 3 in interviews said they would rather work heel. Also, its interesting to note that with the exception of MJF all of his major programs were against faces.
Similarly, Wardlow discussed in an interview he had custom tights made for a future rematch, which also suggests a Punk turn (unless they wanted to turn the at-the-time ehite hot Wardlow back heel). Plus, all those teases in promos against Kingston, MJF and (most famously) Page…but who TF knows?
Its funny, because he is clearly the biggest star AEW has had to date and set record gates for them, but the last year also feels like a lot of missed opportunities.
Your thoughts?
I think he would have turned heel just because everyone else in the world would have gotten sick about hearing how great Chicago is and turned on him.
