Late Career Overness

18th October 2022 by Scott Keith

I’m sure if you’d asked any fan who would be one of the most over guys on the show two years ago, not one would have said… Billy Gunn. Sure it’s because he’s with The Acclaimed but you can’t deny “Daddy Ass” is an important piece now and IS over. It’s crazy to me because this is the most over he has been in his whole career. Sure he was in the second main event of summerslam 99 with THE ROCK and was part of DX and multiple tag team champions over the years but he was always the afterthought in these teams, groups or feuds, with Rock literally as God thought his name was Bob. So am I wrong in saying this is the time that the fans have most bought into him? Daddy Ass is getting chants and t shirts and he is this popular nearing age 60! Which brings me to the question has anyone else been close to that distinction? Has anyone else gotten over this late in their career? I’d love to hear everyone else’s opinions on it.

Terry Funk is still the king, my friend. If Billy Gunn has another couple of career resurrections after this one, he might catch up to the Funker, but I doubt it.
