Hi Scott, I hope you’re doing well. I mentioned this yesterday in the Why Bret Why Raw Episode thread and I wanted to get your opinion.
I remember Foley saying that for a bad guy to be truly effective, no matter how wrong he is, he has to believe he's right. Using that logic, then is Vince's interview is the greatest heel promo/interview of all time? The delusion is absolute, and the best part is, I can't tell if he's “performing” (although in retrospect, it's pretty clear he's trying to come off as sympathetic and the wronged party here), or if he really believes what he's saying is truth.
Hot take, it's his absolute apex as a heel and he hadn't even officially “turned” yet.
Agreed. Once he actually turned and got into the character, there was a certain amount of winking at the camera even at his most evil, and that wasn't there with his initial performance.
