The discussion about too many people doing the Three Amigos got me thinking – let's say when Eddie drops the title in '04 he gets himself checked out and they catch his medical condition, treating it sufficiently that he extends his life by who knows how long and his career by another year or two. Let's also say that Eddie's presence stabilizes Benoit to the point that HE gets checked out. In addition to saving Nancy and Daniel, Benoit is also around longer, perhaps wrestling for a few years longer than Eddie (his survival would delay the creation of the Wellness Policy, at least until medical science catches up – you know they'd both try to keep wrestling as long as they could). People get to live, but since this is a wrestling blog – how would you book them? What other ripple effects would their continued presence have? Does Rey Mysterio ever become a main eventer? Does an emaciated post-steroid Benoit, looking like late stage Dynamite, fight Bryan Danielson in RoH or Japan? Would people in 2022 still be doing the Amigos in tribute to a now retired (but still living) Guerrero?
I think they would have moved into a retired trainer role like Regal, and then both would have been cut years later and ended up in AEW. I think they would have had a huge influence in creating NXT though.
