When the subject of the Starrcade '97 main event between Sting and Hogan comes up, the botched finish is typically what is discussed. But what a lot of people fail to talk about is the actual match itself, and how horrible it is. This was supposed to be a grudge match between two very heated rivals and most of the match features basic hold exchanges like headlocks and wristlocks. The “high spots” of the match were Sting's dropkicks and his Stinger Splash into the steel railing. What WCW desperately needed was someone like Pat Patterson who could put together a memorable and dramatic match, as you can tell that Sting and Hogan had very little if any pre-match planning. The botched finish was just the icing on the stale cake that was the biggest match in WCW's history. Truly awful.
It really didn't need to be a great match, but it needed Sting convincingly destroying Hogan at the end, which is 100% not what we got.
