40+ wrestlers
By Scott Keith on 24th August 2022
Hi,
I'm pretty sure there are more wrestlers in their mid to late 40s (Lesnar, Mysterio, Lashley, Edge, AJ Styles, CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, etc.) and even some in their 50s (Jericho, R-Truth, Dustin Rhodes) who are still performing at a pretty high level than
at any other time. I think right now any major PPV would have about half the performers over 40. Contrast with Wrestlemania X-7, in which Ron Simmons was the only full timer of this age. This is likely due to better training and nutrition, and maybe even more
so less elicit drug use on the road.
My question is, who would you have liked to have seen get an extended run through their 40s, from a different era, but couldn't due to a build up of injuries? For me it's Bret Hart – he could have had so many more great matches had his body not broken down.
Stone Cold comes to mind as well, although I don't know if anything could have prevented his neck issues.
100 percent Bret Hart. If he had not been Goldberged in 2000 he probably would have made peace with Vince and had a comeback.
