Two questions this time:
1) Is there any definitively established reason that the Steamboat/Bret match didn't happen at WM2? The two explanations that leap readily to mind are 1) they needed bodies for the battle royale and 2) they wanted to balance out the roster across
the three cards. If the plan was for Steamboat to win regardless, he probably gets more of a rub from Hercules than Bret in 86, so that's another potential reason.

2) What was the response from fans and the sheets to the NWA's “We Wrestle” slogan and the promotional posture that accompanied it?
Bret was told that he was needed for the battle royale and they’d do the Steamboat match later. Not much more to it than that.
As for question 2, it was rightly treated as a joke.
