WCW PPV Jobber Matches

By Scott Keith on 25 July 2022

SK,

Watching old WCW on YouTube and started thinking over their PPV format, even at the height of their viewership.

Great example is Starrcade 1999, their “big one” that featured regular WCW Saturday Night stars like Norman Smiley, Prince Iaukea, Jerry “Lightning Foot” Flynn and so on.

Why was this? There weren’t even storylines or running feuds in most cases.

It would be like throwing T-Bar vs Cedric Alexander or some other Main Event match in the middle if Wrestlemania.

What gives? Besides “because WCW”

My working theory is that they were terrible with time management and tended to severely under-budget matches, requiring last minute filler to make things work.
