One of the reasons I loved heels like “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect so much growing up was that you couldn't help admit that the thing they were most arrogant about was something they could back up. Those sports vignettes showed that Curt Hennig had genuinely amazing athleticism, and every time Rude took off his robe, they would cut to women in the audience reacting, so that smirk he had on his face that screamed “Yeah, your wife thinks I'm hot,” was 100% confirmed.
I think it's also been a really effective quality for Lesnar – that he's a bonafide automobile-destroying monster and couldn't care less about the WWE Universe as long as he gets his check.
Who are some of your favorite heels whose heat-drawing power felt authentically justified up by their style/personality?
Tully Blanchard was absolutely impossible to like on any level. Also Ivan Koloff was such a perfect moutache twirling foreign heel that I don't think gets enough love these days. The man beat BRUNO!
