Champions getting overshadowed
By Scott Keith on 16th June 2022
Good afternoon Mr. keith, hope all is well. Maybe you can add some further examples of something that is currently happening in AEW; The tag-team champs are getting over-shadowed by other feuds/members in their level, and now its to a point Jungle Boy even joked about it on Twitter. FTR(rightfully so), Bucks & Hardys are getting the majority of the tv investmenti feel.
I know there are plenty more, but the ones that really come to mind is UT 97 title run not comparing to Austin/Harts (even took a backseat to them at his 1st ppv title defense!), and Benoits 04 run to the Triple H/Michaels continued wankfest. But to Beniots credit, his matches were always better during that time. Would Warriors run qualify with Hogan still around? Got any more big ones you can tell us about around the campfire?
Well the Jurassic Express doesn't have to worry about that problem ever again!
For me the gold standards are Ricky Steamboat in 89, and CM Punk in 2011-12. Punk was clearly the #3 guy in the promotion despite being one of the longest reigning champions in history. Hopefully he's not bitter about it.
