The Cody Minority
By Scott Keith on 7th June 2022
Hello,
I guess I'm in the minority of opinions, but I felt the Cody Cell match was a very uncomfortable watch, finding myself thinking how this could be allowed by any doctors, how irresponsible & focusing entirely on concern for his health on each spot and paying no attention to any of the story/feud that was supposed to be happening. The match became 100% about his arm, and not in the good way from a guy selling & in-ring storytelling.
If no injury happened, do you think this match plays out the same with pretty much the same spots? Because if so, this would've been a fairly average Cell match and probably forgotten the next couple days. In some way, it reminded me of the infamous Foley Cell match; take out the crazy bumps & there's not much of a match there.
Also, given how strategic Cody is with everything towards his character (not necessarily anything wrong with that) do you think his choice to do the match was less “love of the business/fans” & more a strategy to give himself babyface cred as “the toughest SOB in wrestling today” for future marketing?
Yeah I’d say it was a *** match elevated to more than four by the incredible real life drama. Wrestling is all about intangibles sometimes and this was a case of that.
