So while I think we can all agree Cody being back in WWE is the best thing for all sides, do you think we will ever find out what happened between Cody and TK? Cody has said it wasn't money, that TK would of probably paid him whatever he wanted. They have both played nice and have just said there was a disagreement they couldn't get over. Any idea of what it could be?
My thoughts are clearly Cody thought he was gonna be the face of this thing with TK in support and that changed very quickly. Also, if you go back to Cody's initial mission statement thats not really what AEW looks like in any way. Cody wanted a sportscentric alternative to WWE and their sports entertainment, while it seems everyone else wanted an American version of New Japan and a weekly love letter to indy wrestling with better funding. I assume once he was out of having any control he looked around and said it's this really worth lighting myself on fire and taking unprotected chairshots for? Plus, look how quickly they turned on him. Yes, some of that he brought on himself with some cringe promos, but wow the amount of fans who basically said good riddance we never even needed Cody is shocking. Especially since alot of them were defending him before he left.
Meanwhile Cody is exactly what Vince looks for in a star, so really it worked out great for him. He used Tony and AEW to build his profile up and bolted the first chance he got when he saw the writing on the wall. Its early but WWE is killing it so far with Cody, hopefully it stays that way. He always seemed out of place in AEW anyway. He is perfect for WWE. He dresses like a million bucks, great on the mic, amazing with getting out there and promoting the brand. I see no reason he doesn't have huge success, which I think is eventually why MJF follows him there.
I think the timing is clear now — Cody was threatened by the ascent of Hook and wanted him held down, and TK wouldn't play ball and had to let Cody go. It's literally the only explanation that makes sense.
