Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper are in the booth, still broadcasting from Indianapolis, Indiana.
Opening Contest: Mr. Perfect (w/Bobby Heenan) (33-3) pins Reno Riggins after the Perfectplex at 2:01:
In the split screen, Heenan says he has meant his previous apologies to the Big Bossman and his mother but he is only sorry he did not get a chance to beat up the Bossman on Main Event. Riggins catches Perfect off guard with a slam and dropkick for an early near-fall, but Perfect turns the tide with a takedown and knee drop on Riggins’ knee. The Perfectplex follows quickly thereafter to give Perfect an eighth-straight win. After the bell, Heenan helps Riggins to his feet so Perfect can take out the jobber’s knee again.
Gene Okerlund’s Update segment provides an announcement from WWF President Jack Tunney. Tunney says that after reviewing footage of Demolition’s interjection in the Legion of Doom-Orient Express match several weeks ago he is putting Demolition on probation and can only have two members going forward. Mr. Fuji and the Orient Express are also ordered to fulfill Demolition’s obligations on house shows against the Legion of Doom. This means that the Legion will face the Express and Fuji in two-on-three handicap bouts.
The British Bulldog (2-0) beats Paul Diamond (1-15) after the running powerslam at 1:12:
The Bulldog does a generic babyface promo in the split screen, thanking WWF fans for their support. As the match unfolds, McMahon tells fans that Brother Love will not be doing an interview segment today because of managing “Kane the Undertaker.” The squash features little action as the Bulldog catches Diamond’s body press effort off the ropes and lifts him into the running powerslam.
Rick Martel (18-1-1) defeats Pez Whatley via submission to the Boston Crab at 2:47:
Jake Roberts does an insert promo about how he wants to take from Martel what Martel took from him. Martel pounds away until Whatley catches him with a dropkick. A second effort misses, though, and Martel triumphs with the Boston Crab.
Dustin Rhodes (w/Dusty Rhodes) (2-0) pins the Black Demon after a bulldog at 1:14:
The Demon is too thin to be Jose Luis Rivera on this show. In the split screen, Ted DiBiase says it is just a matter of time before he owns both Rhodes. Rhodes plants the Demon with a hiptoss and finishes with a bulldog.
The Legion of Doom (12-0) defeat Black Bart & Kent Carlson when Hawk pins Carlson after the Doomsday Device at 1:37:
Bart is clotheslined over the top rope and takes a nap on the outside while the Legion beat up his partner. McMahon and Piper scream about how they love the Gobbledy Gooker, while the crowd screams for the Doomsday Device that ends the bout.
Highlights of the end of the Ultimate Warrior’s WWF title defense against Ted DiBiase on Main Event is shown, along with Randy Savage and Sensational Sherri’s match ending run-in.
Sergeant Slaughter (w/General Adnan) (9-0) beats Tito Santana (16-11-1) via submission to the Camel Clutch at 3:35:
These two are becoming very familiar with each other as this marks the third time they are wrestling in less than a week. Santana hits the flying forearm after the two-minute mark but Adnan gets on the apron and jabs Santana with the Iraqi flag when he makes a cover. The distraction allows Slaughter to hit a backdrop suplex, which sets up the Camel Clutch and Santana surrenders for the second time in as many days. Rating: *
After the bell, Slaughter and Adnan tie Santana in the ropes and Slaughter tosses the referee over the top rope. Slaughter gets on the house mic and accuses Santana of being an illegal immigrant. Santana spits on the Iraqi flag instead of saluting it, triggering a beating with the flagpole until Hacksaw Jim Duggan makes the save. When Slaughter flees, Duggan says that America is for everyone and stomps on the Iraqi flag.
The Barbarian (w/Bobby Heenan) (22-0) pins Jeff Kramer after the flying clothesline at 1:07:
The Big Bossman does an insert promo about how no member of the Heenan Family is going to prevent him from getting to Heenan. The Barbarian annihilates Kramer to build momentum for a future encounter with the Bossman.
Tune in next week to see the Orient Express, Tugboat, Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado, and Cain the Undertaker! Also, Brother Love returns to interview Hacksaw Jim Duggan and fans will get a look at the Gobbledy Gooker!
The Last Word: The angle for the feature match was a rehash of Main Event, moving Sergeant Slaughter into a more prominent feud with Hacksaw Jim Duggan. The Jack Tunney announcement was a clue that one of the members of Demolition was no longer in the company, with most fans surprised later that Ax was the one who no longer made appearances. Overall, this was a good show that promoted the midcard and advanced the feuds at that level.
