Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper are in the booth, concluding the tapings in Springfield, Illinois. Superstars has a new opening where WWF Champion the Ultimate Warrior is charged with electricity and shoots lasers out of his eyes toward the sky.
Opening Non-Title Contest: The Texas Tornado (Intercontinental Champion) (12-0) pins Buddy Rose after the discus punch at 2:25:
This is a rematch from the July 28 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rose escapes early claw efforts but the third time is a charm for the Tornado, who locks it in and then bounces off the ropes with a discus punch to finish.
Gene Okerlund’s Update segment recaps how Dustin Rhodes won the ten-minute challenge against Ted DiBiase on last week’s show. Afterward, Dusty Rhodes promises that DiBiase will find out how bad a father can be at Survivor Series. DiBiase, along with Virgil and Sapphire, says that Dustin only lasted as long as he did because DiBiase wanted to torture him more. He says that Rhodes’ Survivor Series is aptly named because he would only defeat the Million Dollar Team in a dream.
The Barbarian (w/Bobby Heenan) (21-0) pins Red Tyler after the flying clothesline at 2:37:
In the split screen, the Barbarian holds up a drawing of the Bossman’s mother as Heenan says he will comply with WWF President Jack Tunney’s order not to make any more negative comments about the situation. The Barbarian does a weird move where he whips Tyler into the ropes and gets down on all fours to kick him in the stomach. That sets up the Mafia kick and flying clothesline, allowing the Barbarian to defeat Tyler for the second time this year.
The Power & Glory squash from Prime Time Wrestling is shown.
Okerlund does the Survivor Series Report. The Alliance says they are coming at the Mercenaries with full speed. Tito Santana takes charge of the promo, making it appear that he is the captain of the team more than Nikolai Volkoff. The Natural Disasters repeat their pledge to end the careers of the Hulkamaniacs. The Hulkamaniacs rebut that Survivor Series night will be a long one for their opponents, with Hulk Hogan promising that a member of his team will win the Grand Finale. However, it is still unclear what the Grand Finale match looks like.
Brother Love, still wearing a neck brace, interviews the Perfect Team. They talk up their chances at the Survivor Series, with Perfect calling dibs on eliminating the Texas Tornado and Demolition calling dibs on eliminating the Ultimate Warrior and the Legion of Doom.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan (31-1-1) beats Doug Vines after the three-point stance clothesline at 2:37:
In the split screen, Sergeant Slaughter and General Adnan warn Duggan that after Survivor Series he is going to declare war on him. Duggan works his typical squash formula, continuing to build his impressive win-loss record for the year.
The Legion of Doom (11-0) defeat the Orient Express (w/Mr. Fuji) (23-1) via disqualification when Demolition interfere at 3:19:
The Legion swallow up their opponents, spamming various slams. Hawk does some token in peril work when Tanaka knees him in the back after a distraction, but that does not last long until the Legion clear the ring and prepare Tanaka for the Doomsday Device. However, Demolition at Fuji’s urging do a run-in and that creates a disqualification. There was not much here but the slams were a lot of fun. Rating: *
After the bell, Demolition and the Orient Express lay out the Legion, with each member eating Demolition Decapitation before and after the commercial break.
Tune in next week to see WWF Tag Team Champions the Hart Foundation defend their titles against Rhythm & Blues! Also, Jake Roberts returns to the ring!
The Last Word: The heel beatdown at the end was a much-needed segment for Demolition, who have looked weak on television for much of their feud against the Legion of Doom. The WWF also set up some feuds after Survivor Series on this show as well between the Big Bossman and the Barbarian and Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Sergeant Slaughter. The latter means that Nikolai Volkoff is going to come out as the loser in the Slaughter feud, the right booking decision because Volkoff’s babyface push has not worked.
