Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Randy Savage are in charge of commentary, continuing the tapings in Springfield, Illinois.
Opening Contest: The Bushwhackers (23-0) defeat Bob Bradley & Spike Jones when Luke pins Jones after a double stomachbreaker at 2:17:
The Bushwhackers are enamored with the giant egg near the entrance but they do not start chowing down on it. Piper and Savage trade barbs on commentary, ignoring most of the match, but there is not much to call as the Bushwhackers beat on Bradley and then finish Jones with their trademark moves.
Gene Okerlund’s Update segment recaps Jake Roberts’ appearance last week on the Brother Love Show. Afterward, Rick Martel does a bit about how he is not sorry for spraying Arrogance in Roberts’ eyes.
Sergeant Slaughter (w/General Adnan) (6-0) beats Warren Bianchi via submission to the Camel Clutch at 1:50:
Before the match, Adnan speaks in Arabic and Slaughter interprets it to mean that fans need to get on their feet. In the split screen, Boris Zhukov and the Orient Express put over their leader for the Survivor Series. Zhukov has been plugged into Akeem’s place, with the WWF glossing over Akeem’s disappearance. Slaughter works fast and uses a gourdbuster to set up the Camel Clutch, his new finisher. Adnan wanders into the ring before the submission, but the referee pays him no mind.
Piper makes Savage mad by showing him a picture of the Ultimate Warrior in the 1991 WWF Calendar. Savage rips the calendar apart and leaves the set.
Brother Love has recovered from last week’s DDT but is wearing a neck brace to sell it. Bobby Heenan is this week’s guest. Heenan issues an apology to the Big Bossman’s mother and mothers everywhere for the hurt he has caused. Love testifies to Heenan’s sincerity, asking fans to touch their television sets to feel it. They get on their knees to beg some more. This was funny, but it went too long since the Bossman never interrupted the segment.
Ten Minute Challenge Match: Dustin Rhodes (w/Dusty Rhodes) (1-0) beats Ted DiBiase (w/Virgil & Sapphire) (21-1-1) by lasting the time limit:
The rules of the match call for DiBiase to beat Dustin in ten minutes or less. If Dusty was serious about winning at Survivor Series, he would replace Koko B. Ware on the Dream Team with his son since Ware has struggled for most of the year. This marks the first time that Dusty and Sapphire have been in close proximity since SummerSlam, but Dusty pays Sapphire no mind at ringside. DiBiase and Dustin have good chemistry as DiBiase does not take his opponent seriously at first, causing him to get rolled up for near-falls. The worst part of the match is Piper, who keeps screaming “How much time?” on commentary in an omen of how he will ruin the WrestleMania XI “I Quit” match between Bret Hart and Bob Backlund by screaming “Whaddya say?” a million times. Despite that, Piper does make a good observation near the end when DiBiase works long chinlocks instead of using high-impact maneuvers to put the rookie away. DiBiase hooks the Million Dollar Dream with a minute to go, but Dustin takes a long time to fade into it and even gets his hand up, which probably was not supposed to happen. This had a good start, but the last five minutes dragged because of DiBiase’s reliance on chinlocks. Rating: **
After the bell, DiBiase knocks Dusty out of the ring and clocks Dustin with the Million Dollar Championship Belt. The heels flee when Dusty recovers and gets back into the ring.
Okerlund does the Survivor Series Report. The Natural Disasters put over how they are the meanest team in the WWF and will end the careers of the Hulkamaniacs. The Hulkamaniacs use puns to fit their gimmicks and say they are spoiling for a fight. The Warriors discuss how they are ready to make the sacrifices necessary to beat the Perfect Team, and the Legion of Doom make fun of Demolition’s new masks.
Mr. Perfect’s squash match from Prime Time Wrestling is shown.
The Orient Express and Mr. Fuji call out the Legion of Doom, saying they have a special plan to take care of them. The Legion rebut that the Express will feel their power next week.
Tune in next week to see the Legion of Doom square off against the Orient Express! Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Power & Glory, and Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado in action!
The Last Word: The show was sold on Dustin Rhodes-Ted DiBiase and it was entertaining enough. Randy Savage was a nice third wheel on commentary, but he would not return in that role until the following year.
