Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are in the studio for tonight’s show.
Opening Contest: The Bushwhackers (21-0) defeat Barry Hardy & Dale Wolfe when Luke pins Hardy after a double stomachbreaker at 3:36:
The Bushwhackers take their take whacking through their opponents and Butch has an interesting move where he is worked into a frenzy on Hardy, running off the ropes in different directions to stomp him. No mention is made of the Bushwhackers house show feud with the Orient Express.
Gene Okerlund’s Special Report segment hypes Survivor Series.
Earthquake (w/Jimmy Hart & Dino Bravo) (23-2) pins Tom Bennett after the Earthquake Splash at 1:39:
With Hulk Hogan away filming Suburban Commando, Earthquake has lost momentum. Squashing jobbers is a way to keep the spotlight on him, but he is already above doing this kind of work. A female fan in the split screen worries about Earthquake might squash Hogan and Tugboat, something that the Earthquake does to Bennett after the bell by giving him another two Earthquake Splashes. That leads to Bennett doing the customary jobber stretcher job.
Akeem (w/Slick) (10-4-1) beats Scott Colton after a splash at 1:29:
In the split screen, Saba Simba says it is unthinkable that Akeem has the same origin as him. As Akeem works over Colton on the ropes, Lord Alfred Hayes argues that Akeem could be African because there are lots of white people born in Africa. It is embarrassing that this feud got off the cutting room floor.
Heenan says that the Big Bossman’s mother should sit on the egg because it would hatch.
A replay of Okerlund’s interview with Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado on Wrestling Challenge is shown.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan (27-1-1) pins Paul Diamond (1-9) after the three-point stance clothesline at 1:24:
Diamond should have Duggan well scouted since this is the third time they have met this year, but he is destroyed in short order. As the match unfolds, Duggan dedicates the match in the split screen to all of America’s military personnel.
Promo time with Sean Mooney! The Orient Express and Mr. Fuji do another dull training promo, warning the Bushwhackers to be ready for them. WWF Tag Team Champions the Hart Foundation complain about how Rhythm & Blues sound, arguing that they are ready to defend their titles at a moment’s notice.
A replay of the Koko B. Ware-Brooklyn Brawler match from London, Ontario, Canada that aired earlier in the year is shown.
Sergeant Slaughter (w/General Adnan) (4-0) defeats Ronnie Garvin (6-7-1) via submission to a noogie at 10:52:
This match took place in Wheeling, West Virginia as part of the Wrestling Challenge tapings there on August 29. It is Slaughter’s first test against name competition after winning a handful of squashes. Garvin wins a prolonged slugfest and uses the Garvin Stomp, but Slaughter blocks the reverse figure-four. Garvin has to use the ropes to break up a pinfall following a backbreaker and manages one last flurry of blows in the corner, but Slaughter catches him in the throat and uses the noogie for a clean submission win. After the bell, Slaughter and Adnan do a two-on-one attack until WWF officials intervene. There were parts of this match that were good, but Slaughter struggled to maintain his side of the match so it would stall out when Garvin was not in control. Rating: *
A replay of Jake Roberts being injured by Arrogance on the Brother Love Show on Superstars airs.
Mr. Perfect (w/Bobby Heenan) (29-3) pins Red Tyler after the Perfectplex at 1:52:
With this squash, Perfect breaks his three-match streak of beating wrestlers named Jim. In the split screen, Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado says that Perfect is the perfect loser rather than the perfect challenger, a promo that positions the Tornado more as a heel in this ongoing feud. After the bout, Heenan pulls Tyler to his feet so Perfect can knock him down again.
The Legion of Doom (8-0) beat Tony Burton & Mike Shelton when Hawk pins Shelton after the Doomsday Device at 2:26:
Shelton takes a long beating before the Legion decide to put him out of his misery with the Doomsday Device.
More promos with Mooney! The Warlord and Slick talk about moving up the ranks of the WWF and that Koko B. Ware, Jimmy Snuka, and Ronnie Garvin are on his hit list. Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado struggles to have a coherent thought in his promo, talking about facing anyone that gets in his way and how he is happy to be holding the Intercontinental Championship.
Power & Glory’s recent squash on Wrestling Challenge is shown.
Dino Bravo (w/Jimmy Hart) (24-3-2) beats Nikolai Volkoff (12-0) via disqualification when Tugboat interferes at 6:28:
This bout took place at the recent Wrestling Challenge taping in Flint, Michigan. Both men are limited offensively and Bravo bumps a lot in the beginning. The crowd does not get into things, though. Bravo’s offense after that slows things down and he cuts off a late Volkoff comeback by hitting him with Hart’s megaphone. That should end the match but Volkoff cannot afford a loss due to his feud with Sergeant Slaughter, so Bravo mounts him and lays in blows until Tugboat runs in for the disqualification, thereby ending Volkoff’s unbeaten streak in singles competition. Rating: ¼*
Tune in next week to see the Big Bossman face Haku!
The Last Word: Two bad feature matches make for a bad episode of Prime Time Wrestling. The Nikolai Volkoff babyface turn is not working, so it is best for the WWF to cut bait on it, give Sergeant Slaughter an easy win in their feud, and move onto better things.
