What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – October 6, 1990

Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper are in the booth, starting a new television taping in Toledo, Ohio. According to thehistoryofwwe.com, this taping took place on September 18.

Randy Savage’s squash from Prime Time Wrestling begins the telecast.

Gene Okerlund’s Update segment recaps Sergeant Slaughter and General Adnan attacking Nikolai Volkoff on Prime Time Wrestlinga couple of weeks ago. Afterward, Slaughter and Adnan say Volkoff got a taste of the war to come between them.

Jimmy Snuka (14-2) pins the Black Demon after the Superfly Splash at 1:57:

The Black Demon was a masked wrestling gimmick that went all the way back to 1969 WWWF. At that time Tony Nero was under the hood, but by this time it was another jobber vehicle for Jose Luis Rivera. Snuka makes the people happy by quickly grounding the Demon and doing the Superfly Splash.

A giant egg is shown near the entrance. McMahon says it must be a giant turkey egg.

Mr. Perfect (w/Bobby Heenan) (28-3) pins Jim Evans after the Perfectplex at 1:59:

Perfect and Evans trade a quick series of hammerlocks, but Perfect dominates after that as Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado pops up in the split screen and says that Perfect now has to prove that he is the perfect challenger for the title. After the bell, Heenan helps Evans to his feet so Perfect can kick Evans’ leg out from under him.

Ted DiBiase’s squash from Prime Time Wrestling airs.

Rick Martel hypes Arrogance before the next Brother Love Show and sprays some around the set. Love has Martel stick around after Jake Roberts comes out. Love complains that the snake bag stink, so Martel begins spraying it. Roberts stops him the first time, but when Martel does it a second time, Roberts is sprayed in the eyes. Roberts goes down in a heap and the Big Bossman and WWF officials come out to help him.

Dino Bravo (w/Earthquake & Jimmy Hart) (23-3-2) defeats Kevin Krueger after the sidewalk slam in 58 seconds:

In the split screen, Tugboat tells Bravo that he might have Earthquake backing him up but Tugboat has Hulk Hogan. Bravo shows good fire, bending Kruger up with a back suplex and planting him with a sidewalk slam following an airplane spin. It marks Bravo’s fastest win of the year. After the bell, Earthquake gives Kruger two Earthquake Splashes.

Okerlund does the first Survivor Series Report. The card will take place on Wednesday, November 22. Matches announced include the Warriors (the Ultimate Warrior, the Texas Tornado & the Legion of Doom) against the Perfect Team (Mr. Perfect & Demolition), the Hulkamaniacs (Hulk Hogan, the Big Bossman, Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Tugboat) against the Natural Disasters (Earthquake, Dino Bravo, Rick Rude & the Barbarian). Okerlund announces that at the end of the evening all of the survivors of the matches will face off in a “Grand Finale Match of Survival.”

The Big Bossman (24-1) defeats Tom Stone after the Bossman Slam at 1:33:

McMahon tells the audience that Roberts had to be taken to the hospital because there was nothing that medical officials in the arena could do for him. In the split screen, Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan throws some more insults toward the Bossman’s mother and Rude tells the Bossman that he would like to see him come to shut him up. The Bossman makes quick work of Stone and after the match he handcuffs the jobber to the ropes but does not hit him with the nightstick.

McMahon announces that the egg by the entrance way will hatch at Survivor Series.

The Last Word: Survivor Series is starting to take shape and the two announced elimination matches fit nicely except for the Ultimate Warrior, who is the odd man out in the Warriors vs. Perfect Team bout since the Warrior is supposed to be feuding with Randy Savage. The Jake Roberts-Rick Martel feud is off to a good start as well, although it should be noted that Dusty Rhodes was blasted with Arrogance earlier in the year and did not show ill-effects like Roberts did.
