Conventional wisdom is that Vince didn't run Hogan-Flair at WMVIII because the program had flopped on house shows. You may have answered this before, but WHY did it flop? WWF didn't make Flair seem like a threat? WWF fans generally not knowing or caring about Flair and his more realistic style? Something else?
To be clear here, it didn't FLOP as such. They did good business for the first couple of trips around the horn, but the problem was that the program was burned out by Christmas. Hogan wasn't gonna job, though, and I think it kind of killed off Flair's aura right away. Plus you knew Vince wasn't going to get 100% behind a Crockett guy (even though he had been chasing Flair for YEARS) and overall it was just a combination of bad timings.
