Elevation

By Scott Keith on 28 July 2019

Good sir…….I was just watching some 2000 WCW on the network during the Billy Kidman – Hulk Hogan feud. I know in theory the point was for Hogan to elevate Kidman but it simply did not work. So my question is 2 fold.

1. Is the Hogan-Kidman feud the worst example of an established star working with a lower card guy with the intention of elevating said lower card guy???

2. What’s the best example of it working? I was thinking maybe Flair vs. Sting from Clash 1???

1. It was pretty bad. Hogan doing a million jobs for people at that point didn't help any, either. Plus no one watching even knew the point of the feud, which was established by the equivalent of a Twitter war in the days before Twitter.
2. That Flair-Sting match interesting in that they didn't really want Sting for that position. Luger was the guy they wanted and Sting was just supposed to be a time filler. I hear people champion Undertaker v. Jeff Hardy all the time but I never really bought into that one. I thought Cena's debut against Angle was done really well.
