Flair the politician

By Scott Keith on 6 July 2019

I always felt Flair got a pass for being a politician protecting his spot, whereas a Hogan or Dusty is frequently crucified. It seems like WCW was in a good place despite Crockett failing as they had true young stars. But Flair never put over Luger or Windham, he’s openly stated he never would have put Luger over. Sting’s win was drawn out and done with the aforementioned small package. Flair puts the belt on Steamboat because he knows Steamboat isn’t over and will give him the belt back. Funk is hot and shockingly fresh in 89, and yet Flair totally squashes him throughout the feud. When Flair comes back to WCW, he puts himself over monster heel Vader and then books himself in another main event program with Steamboat. This is the same stuff Hogan gets crap for, but Flair always gets a pass and gets to play the victim card because Hogan moved into town in 1994 and outmaneuvered every step of the way. Did all the jobs he did and shame suffered in the later 1990s cloud people’s objectivity on his track record?
Not sure where you were, but people were giving Flair shit ALL THE TIME for not putting guys like Luger and Sting over more than he did.
Also, Funk wanted to lose to Flair. That's how he rolled.
