September 5, 1993
From the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, MA
Your hosts are Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan
The show starts off with the same video package and interview with Jim Cornette, Yokozuna, and Mr. Fuji that we saw from “Superstars.”
Jerry Seavey vs. IRS
Ross talks about being proud of Luger as Heenan notes Luger failed to win the championship. IRS tells the crowd we will soon have new tax laws to force them to pay up. The announcers then talk about a soon to be happening IRS vs. Razor Ramon match as IRS beats down Seavey. IRS continues the beatdown as a mild “Irwin” chant breaks out in the crowd. IRS suplexes Seavey back into the ring as Ross breaks down the IRS and Razor then soon after that IRS uses the Write Off clothesline for the win (2:25).
Thoughts: The announcers talked about Luger a lot here and the IRS vs. Razor Ramon match that will be happening soon.
We get an ad hyping up the encore PPV presentation of SummerSlam.
The Luger interview we saw from “Superstars” airs.
Men on a Mission w/Oscar vs. Richie Rich & Mike Maraldo
Ross puts over Luger’s attitude and for being the “uncrowned champion.” Heenan shits on Oscar’s rapping as Oscar works over Maraldo. Heenan now makes fun of Ross for being a hick as Mabel beats on Maraldo. MoM hit a double dropkick as we learn they will be facing Well Dunn at some point. Rich tags in and gets worked over for a bit until MoM puts him away when Mo pushed Mabel on top (3:10).
Thoughts: More talk about putting over Luger as a hero and the “uncrowned champion” while hyping up a match between Men on a Mission and Well Dunn.
Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon vs. Phil Apollo
Heenan talks about Luna & Johnny Polo putting Bigelow & Adam Bomb in a tag team together. Bigelow slams Apollo then applies a chinlock as Ross plugs Radio WWF after saying Luna’s face was made for radio. The camera shows Luna growling at the fans as Bigelow stays in control. Ross puts over Bigelow’s upcoming match with Randy Savage then Bigelow puts Apollo away with a diving headbutt (1:54).
Thoughts: The big news here was talk of a Bigelow & Bomb team. And they were actually billed on face-to-face segments to wrestle the Steiner Brothers for the Titles but that match never happened as Scott would end up being suspended soon.
We get another promo from Ludvig Borga. This time he is in front of an abandoned factory. Borga says American workers have exchanged their tools for pens to sign their welfare checks. Borga says American factories are crumbling down like America itself and all American athletes will be destroyed as he then tells us to “choke on it” after sarcastically wishing us a happy Labor Day.
Paul Van Dale vs. Mr. Perfect
In case you did not know, Van Dale is the father of current WWE superstar Carmella. The announcers talk about Diesel knocking out Perfect at SummerSlam then plug the encore airing of the PPV. Perfect toys with Van Dale to start. Van Dale manages to get a one count with a crossbody but Perfect chops him hard in the corner then hits a neck snap. The announcers wish Don Imus a speedy recovery as Perfect uses a knee lift then a standing dropkick before landing more chops in the corner. Perfect then works over the knee for a bit before hitting the Perfect Plex for the win (3:25).
Thoughts: They talked about Perfect being pissed over Diesel knocking him out and Heenan mocked him for failing to win the title at SummerSlam then the announcers talked about other things going on as its clear that Perfect’s stock has fallen in the company.
King’s Court with Jerry Lawler. This is taped with Lawler promising to tell us the truth about what happened at SummerSlam. He talks about taking the first flight into Detroit and how the supposed luxury car made in Detroit did not work. He then goes into the terrible Detroit drivers and how one old lady caused a ten car accident that he pulled himself out of a fiery wreck. Lawler said the doctors told him he could not wrestle and even refused a cast because he had a mission to beat Bret Hart. Lawler said he had to do something and when you are a king, you appoint someone to take your place then calls Doink an idiot for failing to take care of Bret. Lawler said he still had to go into the ring and face Bret then calls out Bret for taking advantage of a “cripple” and a handicapped person as Lawler says the DMV just sent him a handicapped parking sticker. Lawler then gloats about Bret not being the king and despite being in pain he heard the announcer call him the winner of the match. Lawler was great as an insincere prick. He’s knocking his segments out of the park for this feud.
1-2-3 Kid vs. Iron Mike Sharpe
The crowd chants “1-2-3” which infuriates Sharpe. Ross talks about President Tunney signing Kid for an Intercontinental Title match against Shawn Michaels as Kid works over Sharpe. Kid gets the crowd to chant again but Sharpe rakes his eyes then rams him into the corner a few times. Kid blocks a turnbuckle smash and hits ten of his own before getting a nearfall with a school boy. We then get a spot where Kid was supposed to duck a clothesline but Sharpe went too low and drilled Kid in the face hard as we can hear a thud. Kid then comes back with a spinning heel kick then uses a La Magistral Cradle for the win (2:38).
Thoughts: Kid is now getting a shot at the IC Title and was even billed to face Shawn at the 9/25 show. However, Shawn ended up getting suspended/quitting and Kid jobbed to Bastion Booger on that show instead. Yikes.
Adam Bomb w/ Johnny Polo vs. Bob Evans
Yes, this is “Brutal” Bob Evans of Ring of Honor fame. Bomb beats down Evans with Polo cheering along. Bomb now works a chinlock as Ross talks about exclusive footage on the encore SummerSlam airing that includes a confrontation between Luger and Borga. Polo gives the “total destruction” line then Bomb hits a flying clothesline for the win (2:05). After the match, Bomb gives Evans the Atom Smasher as Heenan laughs.
Thoughts: They talked some more about the potential Bigelow & Bomb team but the big news was learning of this confrontation between Luger and Borga we can see on the encore airing of SummerSlam.
Next week in action are the Steiner Brothers, 1-2-3 Kid vs. Bastion Booger, Razor Ramon, Doink the Clown, Bret Hart, and The Quebecers.
Final Thoughts: A lot of the key segments here were first shown on Superstars but at least they hyped future matches for most of the wrestlers featured on this show.
