October 24, 1992
From the Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect
We see a clip of Bret Hart winning the title from Ric Flair.
Gene Okerlund welcomes Randy Savage & Ultimate Warrior to the interview platform. Savage tells Ric Flair & Razor Ramon that they are survivors as Warrior says Flair & Ramon’s ultimate destiny is ultimate defeat after a lot of rambling. The message from the Ultimate Maniacs was generic and this partnership between Savage & Warrior feels forced and not like a main event act should.
Back to the announcers as Perfect calls Flair a survivor and will become the three-time champion while Razor has survived the streets and that will make them victorious at Survivor Series.
In action this week are the Natural Disasters, Nailz, The Undertaker, and Papa Shango.
Crush vs. Ken Johnson
Crush brushes off some punches then catches Johnson with a side slam. Vince then calls out Perfect for his poor job as a consultant in having Flair wrestle in Saskatoon. Crush is shown in an insert promo talking about Survivor Series as he says the main event will be like Kilauea erupting. Crush then hits Johnson with a tilt-a-whirl slam before the head vice gets the win (2:15).
Thoughts: The most interesting there here was Vince trying to cause conflict in blaming Perfect for Flair taking the match against Bret Hart in Saskatoon.
Natural Disasters vs. Bill Jodoin & Tom Stone
Vince says that next week the Disasters will defend the titles against either Money Inc. or the Nasty Boys. The Disasters work over Jodoin to start. The announcers talk about how to beat the Disasters as Stone is now getting beat down. The Disasters sandwich their opponents then put Stone away after a pair of splashes (3:15).
Thoughts: We now see that the Tag Team Titles will be defended next week and will finally find out which team is in fact the #1 contender.
Nailz comes out for his match against Scotty Zappa but tosses him outside then calls out the Big Bossman. Nailz tells Bossman he can no longer hide behind law and order as he keeps kicking Zappa off of the apron and refuses to leave until Bossman comes out. He keeps screaming as Vince says The Undertaker is scheduled to wrestle next. We keep getting the gimmick of Nailz calling out Bossman when Bossman is not even in the building. And with Vince mentioning that the Undertaker was coming up next you can guess what will happen.
Back from break, Undertaker & Bearer come out as Nailz is still in the ring. Undertaker and Nailz are now face-to-face as Nailz hits the nightstick against his hand while Undertaker is not backing down. We now see Sgt. Slaughter come down to the ring and orders the referee (Bill Alfonzo) to make Nailz leave. Nailz is then shown walking backstage as we see The Undertaker on the video wall.
Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Jason Helton
Undertaker chokeslams Helton then hits a tombstone for the win as he kept his jacket on the entire time (0:41). After the match, Undertaker places Helton inside of a bodybag.
Thoughts: Undertaker makes short work of his opponent after they set up a feud for him with Nailz that can happen after Survivor Series.
“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Butch Banks
Martel grounds Banks to start. He taunts the fans after hitting a dropkick then starts working the leg. Martel stays on the mat then attacks the leg again before using the Boston Crab for the win (2:35).
Thoughts: This match was a backdrop to discuss other things going on in the promotion.
Survivor Series Report with Gene Okerlund. Matches announced are British Bulldog vs. The Mountie for the Intercontinental Title and Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWF World Heavyweight Title. It was a shock at the time to hear Bret vs. Shawn wrestling for the title.
Papa Shango vs. Victor Reed
Shango beats on Reed as Perfect believes that Shawn will win the title at Survivor Series. We then see that Bret is on the cover of “WWF Magazine” as the announcers talk about Shango’s voodoo effecting Bret then Shango uses a reverse shoulderbreaker for the win (1:34).
Thoughts: The focus here was on Bret with Perfect bringing up his personality being bland while Vince says Bret is someone you can actually related with unlike some other people. Seemed like a shot against the Ultimate Warrior if you ask me.
Next week, we will see the debut of the 505 lbs former Sumo Wrestler Yokozuna. Also in action are Tatanka, Shawn Michaels, and for the Tag Team Titles its the Nasty Boys vs. Natural Disasters. We will also have a special interview with Ric Flair & Razor Ramon. The show closes with comments from the Natural Disasters then Jimmy Hart, who tells the Disasters that they will not be facing the Nasty Boys but rather Money Inc. And Hart finally double-crosses the Nasty Boys by giving Money Inc. the title shot instead.
Final Thoughts: We learned of two title matches for Survivor Series and saw that Hart screwed over the Nasty Boys. And that Yokozuna will make his debut (Yoko wrestled first on the 10/26 Prime Time that I will review on Monday) next week. Plus we get a Tag Title match too as we head towards the Survivor Series and an abundance of changes in the company that we will find out about in the coming weeks.
