Goldberg’s initial WWE run; 2003-2004

Was Goldberg's initial WWE run back in 2003-2004 always supposed to last 1 year, or did he leave his deal early? It always struck me as kind of odd that they would only do a 1 year contract with him at that stage. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.
Nope, it was always one year, and they were going to reevaluate when it was over. They had to pay him a LOT of money to get him to give up his WCW contract, so it makes sense that it would only be short-term.
