Coliseum Video

By Scott Keith on 2 March 2018

Hi Scott,

What was the deal with Coliseum Video? I know they were a separate company from the WWE but did they actually ever release any non-WWE tapes and why did it take Vince so long to figure out that he could he produce and distribute the
tapes in house?

Coliseum was indeed a separate company, although the tapes they released outside of the WWF were very limited. Really though, there was no point in Vince taking the business in-house at that point. The market was 100% rental based and costs were high to the distributors, so why not let someone else take the risks and absorb the losses? By 97 it was dirt cheap to make tapes and the market was getting ready to shift to DVD anyway, so that would have reduced costs even more and actually made it feasible for them to run their own home video division.
